Feature & Follow Fridays #1

Posted June 21, 2013 by Wendy in Feature and Follow / 9 Comments

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee. The main idea is to discover new blogs and make new blogger friends but with a twist — a fun feature to participate in every week! If you’d like to participate, check out more info about it here!

This week’s question:

Share your favorite literary quote!

So I have been reading people’s Feature and Follows and basically been lurking. But! I saw what this week’s question was and I immediately had two quotes pop into my mind so I decided to participate! (Is it cheating if I use two quotes?)

Okay, so when I hear the term “literary”, I tend to think “classics”. I realize literary can encompass quite a few things but that’s what I think of. So.. favorite quote #1:

“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.” – Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

Yeah, I know, that quote is used a LOT. But, Tale of Two Cities is one of my all time favorite classics and I love it. (I named my goldfish Darnay back in the day. I was a bit obsessed.)

Favorite quote #2:

“Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I gave you my soul; leave me my name!” – The Crucible by Arthur Miller

We read the play in high school and I loved it. We also watched the movie version of it (the 1996 one with Daniel Day-Lewis and Winona Ryder) and the passion in that line struck me and I’ve loved it ever since.

  1. I have to agree with you, when I actually saw the play for The Crucible and when he said that line… I had cold chills! Great choices!

  2. OH man, that first quote is one of my favorites. That was the only book I read for school that made me cry – and it was that line that did it. SO GOOD.

  3. Welcome to FF Wendy!! 😀 This is a fun meme too! And I came SO close today to putting up a quote from A Tale of Two Cities too- the one where Sydney tells Lucie he hopes she lives a life she loves. I loved that one so much. 😀 And I remember my English teacher writing in my yearbook that he hoped I found a life I loved too. Great quotes!

Thanks for stopping by my FF today! <3
