There’s optimistic. And there’s Jesse Walker.

If he wasn’t so charming, his sunny disposition and incessant grin would get old. Fast.

Falling in love with the broken girl who had at first seemed immune to anything resembling love was the best thing to happen to Jesse since the Walkers adopted him when he was five.

As Jesse’s life continues at the ranch and Rowen begins making her mark in the Seattle art community, they wonder where the middle ground is. Or if there even is one.

As push comes to shove, they’re forced to make choices neither are eager to make, and Jesse and Rowen have to face what their lives might look like without the other.

Can two people with such tragic pasts and different presents expect a promising future  together? Whatever the answer, they’ll need a lot more than love to make it.

*Recommended for mature readers due to moderate content and language.*

I adored Lost and Found, fell in love with both Jesse and Rowen, so I was so excited to read more about them!

Rowen is in school in Seattle while Jesse is working back at Willow Springs. They hate the distance but are making it work. Let me just say, I loved how realistic Nicole wrote everything.

Distance is just one of the struggles though. In Near and Far, we see Jesse’s past come out and we learn that despite his sunny attitude, his past is dark and there are still things he needs to grapple with.

The growth in their relationship is phenomenal. It takes a look at love and explores what it is, what it’s capable of and how to deal with it. Good things in life don’t come easy! This book was more serious than the first, at least that’s how it felt to me. They just had to figure themselves out amongst everything else that was going on.

Now, let me give a shout out to Garth Black for pulling himself out of my hate category. Yes, he still has the gruff, I don’t care attitude but don’t you dare mess with people he cares about (namely his BFF Jesse). He cracks me up with his banter. I’m so glad the 3rd book is his story! =)

I don’t know what else to say but that I feel like relationships were explored so well as well as love and what that means! Adored it and can’t wait for more in the next book, Finders Keepers!

  1. Great review girl! I loved this book so much too. It was so hard to watch them struggle being separated and then having people who wanted to tear them apart. I’m glad they were strong enough to make it through. Oh, just wait until you read Finders Keepers, you will fall in love with Garth!

  2. SIGH! I was all nervous about this book and the direction it would take. I’m so glad it went where it did! I really love that we got to see a whole other side to Jesse, even though it broke my heart! And Garth! <3 !
