Mini Reviews: A Few Christmas Novellas

Yes, I realize it’s not Christmas anymore. However, I was in Cancun over Christmas (sunny, mid-80s, beaches) so of course, it didn’t feel too Christmas-y. I read these novellas around new year and they are just so fun to read and gave me the kind of Christmas atmosphere I missed! So if you love Christmas like I do and want to be sucked into fun festive stories — check these out right away!

Cross Country Christmas by Tiffany King

crosscountrychristmasPublisher: A.T. Publishing LLC
Publishing Date: November 1, 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary
Source: eARC provided by the author -- thank you Tiffany!

With the holiday season upon her, Jamie Foster is once again stressed about making her yearly visit back home to Woodfalls, still single. Fate intervenes in the form of Grant Johnson, a boy she grew up with, who catches the same flight while returning home from a business trip.

When a malfunction sends their plane crashing down on the runway upon takeoff, Jamie and Grant decide to rent a car and make the nine-hundred-mile drive home together. Ironically for them, anything that can go wrong does as they face one hysterical hurdle after another.

Christmas may finally bring Jamie the gift of love she has always wanted if she and Grant can manage to overcome a few obstacles along the way. Ho-ho-ho!

It’s Christmastime and all Jamie is trying to make her way home for Christmas when she runs into Grant Johnson. She grew up with him and has only had a crush on him for oh, forever. I loved their connection and banter as they’re forced to stick together to make their way home after the plane malfunctions.

Novellas can be hit or miss for me because it’s hard to develop characters and a story in such a short period of time but Tiffany King blew me away and did an amazing job! She established Grant and Jamie’s past and really pulls you into their story! I absolutely adored Grant — he was funny and sweet and I loved when he calls Jamie “Jams”! It was so cute. So many things go wrong during their journey to try to get home and some of those mishaps had me laughing! In particular, I loved how in a crisis, the first thing Jamie thinks of is her phone. It definitely sounds like something I would do!

This story was sweet and fun and I didn’t want it to end! Christmas may be over, but pick a cold day and read this! It’s cute, amazing and a must read!

My Rating: 5 Stars!

A Little Christmas Romance by H.M. Ward

christmasromancePublisher: Laree Bailey Press
Publishing Date: November 25, 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary

There’s no such thing as second chances, and Brooke would know. This Christmas will be spent alone and uncelebrated, same as the last. It doesn’t matter that she’s a disgruntled mall elf, standing next to a chimney-scented Santa with the most annoying co-worker ever. It doesn’t make Christmas more magical. It’s just another day to endure, and the holiday can’t pass fast enough. That is, until her old flame, Chris, spots her.

After taking a picture with Brooke in her elf costume, things take an unexpected turn. Maybe getting through the night won’t be so difficult after all.

Brooke is on the eve of another Christmas spent alone and she doesn’t care. But she does have to act chipper for the kids coming to see Santa because she gets the wonderful job of being Santa’s elf at the mall! It’s here that she runs into Chris, someone she’d always had feelings for in the past. But she’d run away from that past three years ago.

I really liked seeing Chris and Brooke together because Chris is just the SWEETEST. He tries to give a little bit of Christmas to Brooke who has decided to “skip” it. It’s adorable. He puts up with her crazy family and you just can’t help but root for them.

I do wish that there had been more! It just seemed to end but I mean, it is a novella. This is a short, cute story that will definitely put a smile on your face! Go, curl up and read it for some happy escapism!

  1. Ooh! I love Tiffany’s Cross Country Christmas! I thought it was really great! It reminded me of that movie Just Married with Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy! That’s one of my favorites, so all the mishaps they had was a great addition. I haven’t read anything by HM Ward yet, but I do have Damaged on my Nook! This also sounds really cute! I love Christmas novellas- they really put me in a great mood!
