Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!

This week we’re talking about top ten popular authors we have never read! I added “YET” to mine because these are also authors I’ve been seriously meaning to read for a LONG TIME but I just haven’t had time yet! I swear I will get to these soon! So, in honor of that, I’m going to say which book of theirs I want/plan to read first when I get to finally reading these popular authors! (Please don’t yell at me and judge me when you see this list!!!)

1. Colleen Hoover

Yes, I hear your gasps. I own like 3 of her books. I even MET her AND got her to sign my copy of Slammed. I will be reading Slammed sometime soon!

2. Veronica Rossi

I was supposed to binge read the Under the Never Sky series a few weeks ago but school has been crazy. (I talk about the craziness in my Feb recap) so the binge read has been postponed. Hopefully during my break.

3. John Green

Okay, so everyone and their pet monkey talks about The Fault in Our Stars. I never picked it up because of the subject matter because I feel like it’ll make me all depressed and I just couldn’t handle it. I know he has plenty of other books too that are on my to read list. Good news though – TFiOS is on hold for me at the library. So yeah. I’ll read it soon. (I may be like #70 on the list right now though.)

4. Sarah Dessen

I didn’t read much contemporary before blogging actually. And she just has so many books. I have no idea where to start. Who wants to give me a suggestion for my first Dessen read?

5. Cassandra Clare

Yes. I have not read the Mortal Instruments series nor The Infernal Devices series. Fail. I think I’ll binge TID first though — less books in the series so it’s less daunting. Also, Kelly at Belle of the Literati has talked about Will Herondale so much that I know I need to meet him!

6. Rainbow Rowell

I’ve heard nothing but amazing things! I own both Eleanor and Park and Fangirl! It’s a toss up which one I’ll read first. 🙂

7. Rick Riordan

For some reason I was never motivated to pick up the Percy Jackson books. I don’t know why, I just never did. However, after reading Gillian at Writer of Wrongs’ series review of it, I’m absolutely convinced I need to check it out! Bought the whole box set and everything! ($16 from amazon for 5 books?? Such a good deal.)

8. Tamora Pierce

Fantasy was my first love and I haven’t read as much of it as I want to recently so I definitely want to check out Tamora Pierce’s books! I think I’ll start with Alanna — is this a good idea? Suggestions?

9. Marissa Meyer

Well I adore fairytale retellings so I have NO idea why I have not read the Lunar Chronicles yet. Tonya at Lilybloom Books very generously gifted me a copy of Cinder earlier this month so SOON I will check it out!

10. Marie Lu

I feel like I’d really like the Legend series. I even own the entire trilogy in a box set when Amazon had a lightning deal on it. I’ll get to it, I promise!

  1. I’ve just read Veronica Rossi’s UTNS series this January, so yeah, way laaaaate to the party *hangs head in same* and I’ve never read Rick Riodan’s books as well, Wendy!
If you want to try out Sarah Dessen, I suggest you to read either This Lullaby or The Truth about Forever. That’s my favorites from all of her books 🙂

  2. Ohhh. Green is awesome, same for Riordan and Meyer, I hope you read their works soon! I was kind of let down by Rossi though so I am in no hurry to start the last novel.
Clare disappointed me with her plagiarism affairs so I am over her.
    Happy reading!

  3. I think you’ll enjoy a lot of these authors. Out of the ones you’ve mentioned, I’d particularly recommend Rainbow Rowell (I loved Eleanor & Park) and Marissa Meyer. I hope you get to read them soon!

  4. I put off reading any Rainbow Rowell for quite awhile–I figured that since there was so much hype I’d be disappointed. I was so wrong! Eleanor & Park was one of the best books I read last year, and it helped get me back into reading YA again.
And–I’m a fellow “haven’t read any John Green” reader!

  5. John Green, Marissa Meyer and Rainbow Rowell all made my list too. I totally forgot about Marie Lu, though. Should have put her on mine! So many authors, so little time. *Sigh* 😀 Now following you via bloglovin’. 😀

  6. Whoa, a whole bunch of my favorite authors are up there! Cassandra Clare, Marie Lu, Marissa Meyer & Rainbow Rowell. But we’ve got a few common ones too – John Green & Rick Riordan. I’ve never really felt a strong urge to read the Percy Jackson series either but I’m going to read TFiOS next month, I hope I survive!

  7. OMG at this list. Veronica Rossi- MUST. Colleen Hoover- MUST. Rick Riordan- MUST. I like Lu’s Legend, but haven’t read any others in the series yet. Love Cassie Clare too, but she doesn’t work for everyone. Though, I think you’ll love her. I also need to read Rainbow Rowell (I shouldve thought to put her on my list!) as well as try some Sarah Dessen.

  8. Look at all those YA authors!

You’re not alone with Lu and Meyer (and Rowell, but that’s changing soon on my end)…but I’m genuinely surprised you haven’t touched Green or Dessen. My favorite Dessen — and the one that made me love reading teen fiction before it burst and became this huge YA publishing boom — is THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER. I feel like that book will be timeless.

Clare’s TID trilogy is, in my opinion, a million times better than TMI. TMI was supposed to end at 3 books, but she continued. TID is brilliant all on its own, and it has a similar arc to Dickens’s TALE OF TWO CITIES. Ugh, that trilogy. So many tears. Very good.

Green’s TFiOS is sad, yes, but it’s not like a book full of sadness. There are more happy moments than sad. The sad bit is just knowing that these teens have cancer. And that anything could happen at any moment. But that’s what makes the story so powerful. Definitely give it a chance once you have the book. Meanwhile, check out LOOKING FOR ALASKA!

  9. Oh my gosh, you so cannot give me crap for how long it took me to read JLA when you haven’t read Marissa Meyer, Veronica Rossi, Tamora Pierce, Marie Lu, Cassandra Clare and Rainbow Rowell! I love all of these authors so much! (Though I haven’t read any Tamora Pierce in a long time.)

John Green was on my list too! And I should have put Sarah Dessen, Rick Riordan and Colleen Hoover on my list.

After reading this, I feel like we have the exact same taste in books (not that I didn’t already know that, but this really solidified it). We are book besties! <3

  10. WOW! So I was kind of shocked at John Green (start with Looking for Alaska, btw), but I was like “Okay, lots of people haven’t read him.” Then I got to Sarah Dessen…. !!!!!!

The Truth About Forever is my FAVORITE by her and basically I’m like jumping up and down right now how you should find it IMMEDIATELY because it is SO SO SO GOOD. I can’t even find words for how much I love that one. 🙂

    Happy reading!

  11. I’m actually about to start Veronica Rossi’s Under the Never Sky– bookmark poised and ready on the first page. I would read This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen, which is the first I read, and I think my favorite. Also, I LOVED Fangirl over Eleanor and Park. And the Lunar Chronicles and Heroes of Olympus are to die for!!

  12. Reading The Lunar Chronicles is an imperative! I binged-read the first three books last month, and I’m hooked. Cress, especially, was fantastic. I also loved the Legend series and Fangirl. I also own E&P, but I haven’t read it yet.

I’ve read one Colleen Hoover book, and I hated it. It was a total glamorization of stalking. But, she’s got a lot of fans, so that may just be me. 🙂

  13. Fangirl is pretty adorable. E&P is great too, but it the subject matter is a bit hard, FYI. I really enjoyed E&P, but I was taken a bit by surprise by the subject matter. TFIOS is great. If you are a crier, you will probably cry by the end of the book, but there is more hope and laughter in the book than tears.

  14. Cee

I have yet to read anything by Veronica Rossi even though I met her. I meant to, but I keep getting distracted my other books. Lol.

You haven’t read Sarah Dessen? *sigh* Wendy! You have to read The Truth About Forever. Any Sarah Dessen newbie must read this book!

YOU HAVE TO READ CINDER. SAY YES TO SAILOR MOON INFLUENCES. ;D

  15. Hmmm…I’ve read a few by Dessen. The Truth About Forever or Along For the Ride were both 5 Star reads for me. And a good place to start. And you have to get to Fangirl soon. Especially sonce you already own it. Loved E & P too, but Fangirl took the cake.

  16. Tamora Pierce was my first venture into fantasy and I fell in love with the genre after her books.
I love your list, great authors are there that you need to get a move on ASAP 🙂
I was late to hop on the Green train also but TFiOS wasn’t as depressing as I thought would be, don’t get me wrong, its sad but I generally can’t handle non-HEA endings but this was kinda okay.

  17. Holly L.

Great list though! You have so much to discover! I love all of Sarah Dessen’s, but definitely like Truth About Forever and This Lullaby the best, love all John Green, Percy Jackson is the best you must read it, ditto Lunar Chronicles (I haven’t read Cress yet though) and omg Tamora Pierce is my favorite, yes definitely start with Alanna!

I still need to read Through the Ever Night by Rossi, haven’t read the Legend series either yet. I’ve read the first 2 books in TMI but none of TID but I want to. I’ve yet to read any Rowell although I have E&P, need to get on that soon and I know I’ll love Fangirl.

I read a lot of adult romance but have not ventured into New Adult yet, although I have Sophie Jordan’s Foreplay which I’m excited to read.

So many books, so little time!

(I’m @brunettemermaid on twitter by the way, hi! So psyched for the Fierce Reads seattle stop in June!)
