Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!

I read quite a bit of classics back in the day during high school English and AP English classics. Some I hated but there were some I absolutely loved!

1. Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens: I ADORED THIS BOOK. I loved it so much I named my pet fish Darnay. I want to reread it soon.

2. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: I love this one. πŸ™‚ Oh Mr. Darcy… I’ve read it so many times. I love the BBC movie version of it too!

3. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee: How can anyone not love this one??

4.Β Dracula by Bram Stoker: I read this for a college English class actually. Started off a bit slow and then it sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down! I love it!

5.Β The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas: Very different from the movie! Still loved.

6. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck: I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did! If I had more time in NY during BEA, I would’ve wanted to see the play!

7. The Crucible by Arthur Miller: Oh I adored this play. I think I had quotes from it under the “quotes” section on my FB for the longest time. It was in high school so, you know, back when FB had a section to put fave quotes.

Yes, this ended up being a top 7 because I only listed the ones I really really loved. I should read some more classics to see if any more will make it on this list. πŸ™‚ Tell me about your favorites!

  1. 1, 2, 3, and 5 are all favorite of mine too. I love The Count of Monte Cristo so much and had read it so many times that when I saw the movie I actually cried because they messed it up so much. (All my favorite character other GONE.) And my love for A Tale of Two Cities also knows no bounds. Yet it is the ONLY Dickens novel I like. (I enjoy A Christmas Carol too but it’s not a full length novel.)

The Crucible is also excellent. Great list!

  2. My favorite classic, that I’ve read so far, has to be Of Mice and Men. I remember reading that book on my own. Then we read it in school and I was so excited to share my enthusiasm and love for this book with others. My whole class hated it. Not one person enjoyed it. I was so disappointed. But I am so glad to see that your adored it!I just love the book blogging community.

Flowers for Algernon is also a favorite!

I can’t wait to read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. I’m pretty confident I’m going to love that one as well.

  3. I watched three movie versions of A Tale of Two Cities but still have yet to read the book. I almost put Dracula and Count of Monte Cristo on mine and then got sidetracked with other options.

    Great list. Here’s mine.

  4. I did a spin on it, and did my favorite classics in the fantasy genre since i’m not a huge fan of a lot of the traditional classics. But I loved The Scarlet Letter too! It was one of the few I read in high school that I really loved. Great list!

  5. I’m totally flailing right now over your numero uno because it’s MINE too!!!!! OMG. I loved Sydney though. P&P also made my list and I probably should have put TKAM and I didn’t. Even though if you ask me what my favorite book is, I’ll usually list it! I don’t think I’ve read Dracula… we read Frankenstein in my AP class instead. I think Dracula was Honors… So I missed that one. And I’m ashamed to say I’ve never read The Crucible or Of Mice and Men. Or The Count of Monte Cristo, but I have always wanted to. Dang, this makes me want to go back and read some classics!

  6. YAY for P&P and To Kill a Mockingbird! They are favorites of mine as well. Have you read Persuasion? That would be my next favorite Austen. I really haven’t read any classics in FOREVER (and have absolutely zero desire to do so) but it was fun remembering my favorites. πŸ™‚
