Scarlet's true identity has been revealed, but her future is uncertain. Her forced marriage to Lord Gisbourne threatens Robin and Scarlet's love, and as the royal court descends upon Nottingham for the appointment of a new Sheriff, the people of Nottingham hope that Prince John will appoint their beloved Robin Hood. But Prince John has different plans for Nottingham that revolve around a fateful secret from Scarlet's past even she isn't yet aware of. Forced to participate at court alongside her ruthless husband, Scarlet must bide her time and act the part of a noblewoman-a worthy sacrifice if it means helping Robin's cause and a chance at a future with the man she loves. With a fresh line of intrigue and as much passion as ever, the next chapter in Scarlet's tale will have readers talking once again.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I really enjoyed Scarlet, the first book in the series so I was really excited to dive into its sequel! Unfortunately I started it when I was really busy with school and somehow I didn’t get back to until recently! I think the beginning started off a bit slow to me so it had that lull that didn’t make me itch to pick it back up again. But I was wrong, because things really pick up and SO MUCH happens!

I love retellings and this twist on the Robin Hood story is pretty awesome. Of course, I love Scar and her fierce determination. In this sequel, she is forced to live with Gisbourne and pretend to be his dutiful, demure wife. Scarlet? As if! But it’s her last resort to get an annulment from him and if that’s what it takes… she’ll do it.

We meet some new characters like Prince John and Princess Isabel and Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine while delving deeper with characters that I loved like John and Much and of course, Rob. I’ve always loved the story of Robin Hood and I LOVED how A.C. Gaughen spins this retelling. The good and righteous Rob trying to fight for the people and Scar who will also do anything for them. I think the sequel is more emotional than Scarlet was and once I got over the initial lull, I read it straight through! There will be moments that will gut you and moments that will have you just rooting and shipping these two SO HARD.

The language in this series is one thing that really took me awhile to get used to. I realize it’s Scar talking like a commoner but sometimes I’d find myself having to reread sentences. Once you get into it, you get used to the language but it definitely threw me.

For fans of retellings, Robin Hood or strong heroines in general — definitely read this series!

  1. Oh man, so many people have raved about SCARLET and recommended this book to me, but I still haven’t read it yet! I have to fix that now that the sequel is out. I’m glad you enjoyed it, I need to find the time to start this series soon. 🙂
