TTT: Best Books I’ve Read So Far In 2017

Posted July 18, 2017 by Wendy in Top Ten Tuesday / 11 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!

So this was a TTT topic a few weeks back and I didn’t get a chance to put mine together in time. Now that TTT is on hiatus for awhile, I decided to do my top 10 today! Actually, turns out I only have SIX that I’ve rated 4.5 and above. Eeep! Rec me your favorite reads, you guys, because clearly I need some more five star reads in my life! These are my TOP favorite reads so far in 2017! (Not counting rereads.) Let me know in the comments if you’ve read any of these and what you thought!

1. Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor: I honestly don’t know why I didn’t read this series sooner because I LOVED IT SO MUCH. You can check out my unabridged thoughts here — definitely one of my top favorite series of all time.

2. Geekerella by Ashley Poston: All the fandom love and all things geeky! The Cinderella twists were also just fantastic and I loved this story so much!

3. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor: Laini is clearly a new favorite author! Strange the Dreamer was just as beautifully written as Daughter of Smoke and Bone and also carried some of that same emotion! Why is the sequel so far away!

4. Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys: This woman writes historical fiction like none other. Riveting and moving, I was wholly invested in Josie and her story!

5. The Valiant by Lesley Livingston: Gladiatrixes! Fast paced with a great female lead — and also, did I mention gladiatrixes? This was so totally my thing.

6. Timekeeper by Tara Sim: Steampunk, alternate historical fiction, fantasy and the best OTP — I really couldn’t have asked for more. Read it!

So clearly, I need to know your fave books of this year so far because I need more 5 star reads! However these six are SO GOOD, I highly recommend if you haven’t read them already!

  1. I love that we both just got around to doing this post!! Geekerella sounds so fun and fandomy. I am definitely interested in it. And yes!! You definitely need some more 5 star books in your life! A List of Cages by Robin Roe and Bad Romance by Heather Demetrios were my 2 faves of this year.

  2. Awww! I cannot wait to read “Geekerella.” It sounds adorable, plus that cover?? (And I’m a fangirl for a good fairy tale.)

YAAASSS ot The Valiant!! I freaking loved that book! Dying for the next one! The only other on this list that I’ve read is Daughter of Smoke and Bone. You think I’d like any of the others?

  4. I loved Geekerella too! I think it’s the perfect read for people who are passionate about anything. I have yet to read Laini Taylor, her books are so intimidating!

My favorite books this year: The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Noteworthy by Riley Redgate, After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord!

    • Laini’s books ARE huge but seriously amazing! She’s def a new fave author! Yay I’m so glad you loved the fixer, I did too! Have you read the Long Game yet?

  5. I still need to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone! I loooved Geekerella and Timekeeper too! And I have The Valiant on my soon TBR, partially because you liked it so much 🙂 A few of my 5 star reads (besides Geekerella and not including rereads) have been The Secret of a Heart Note, Princess of Thorns, Tell Me Three Things, and the Shades of Magic series.

    • I’ve been meaning to read princess of thorns for so long! I really think it’s a ME book. Also excited to get to secret of a heart note!

  6. I adore the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series so much! As great as it is in print, I actually loved the audiobook even more. The narrator is wonderful, and hearing the words out loud brought them to life so beautifully.

    • I loved the audio! I listened to the first on audio but flew through the rest of the series physically because I just HAD to know what happened 🙂 I did JUST finish night of cake and puppets on audio though and it was amazing! love mik and zusana!
