Why Did I Read?
It is the series ender of one of my favorite series! I’ve only been waiting forever for this final book!
My Thoughts
(No spoilers for this book but may have spoilers for the previous books in the series)
I wouldn’t say that Origin ended in a cliff hanger exactly, but it definitely left me with many many questions and desperate for the next book! I was beyond thrilled when I found it out early at Barnes & Noble.
I’m almost unsure how to write this review. I’ve loved the Lux series and loved the journey I’ve been on with Daemon and Kat and everyone. Opposition picks up right where we left off, and we still don’t know why Daemon, Dee and Dawson left with the newly arrived Luxen. We find out more about what the new Luxen are up to and things are not looking good. There’s intense action and heart stopping scenes and of course the epic swoon that I have come to expect and love from JLA.
I absolutely loved that even in the face of well, the end of the world as we know it, Daemon Black can still say the snarkiest lines ever. He’s not one of my favorite book boyfriends for nothing. He’s probably the sexiest alien you’ll ever meet but just don’t mess with Katy because he is fiercely protective and amazing and awesome. He not only fiercely loves Katy, but his family as well and the close bonds he has with Dawson and Dee are another of my favorite things in this series.
Katy’s character development has been astronomically amazing. She’s so strong and she has matured so much. JLA writes such great strong heroines. She also writes awesome secondary characters. I loved Archer! Archer and Daemon’s bickering in this book is hilarious and works great to alleviate the tension. Katy says that she thinks they have the beginning of “a bromance to end all bromances” and I agree wholeheartedly. 🙂
While I adored this series ender, I almost felt like the end was a bit anticlimactic? This may also be because I was expecting a lot more since the book has the Shadows prequel at the end and I did NOT realize it was such a big chunk of the book. So I thought there was more to the book but nope. However, this didn’t dull my enjoyment of the book at all. I still loved it and thought it was a perfect end to the series. Keep in mind “perfect” does not mean all sunshine and rainbows. One scene seriously gutted me and I was really distraught. JLA doesn’t hold back punches.
In Short…
Opposition was a fantastic end to one of my favorite series! If you have not read, you need to start this series! Aliens in high school may sound ridiculous, but it is actually amazing and you won’t regret it. There is action and the signature epic swoon JLA always brings. I am going to miss Daemon and Katy SO much!
I didn’t read your review, only your little “in short” section, but I’m so glad you liked the way it ended!! I can’t wait to binge read this series. Soon hopefully!!!
Great minds think alike…posted my review today too haha. It hasn’t been very long and I already feel the urge to reread! Yay Daemon snark! Nobody does snark like JLA (or book boyfriends for that matter…) And that bromance! Probably one of my most favorite additions to the end of the series 🙂
Great review Wendy!!
I agree, there are some problems with this book/series, but Katie and Daemon are five star worthy on their own, so I can’t NOT give it a high rating. I love them so much. I will be reading this series again and again for years to come, and that’s what makes a good book, IMO.
I’m so sad we’ve had to let them go! 🙁 We will have to do book stalking of The Return now. 😀
