In Alisha Rai’s second novel in her Modern Love series, a live-tweet event goes viral for a camera-shy ex-model, shoving her into the spotlight—and into the arms of the bodyguard she’d been pining for.
OMG! Wouldn’t it be adorable if he’s her soulmate???

Breaking: #CafeBae and #CuteCafeGirl went to the bathroom AT THE SAME TIME!!!
One minute, Katrina King’s enjoying an innocent conversation with a hot guy at a coffee shop; the next, a stranger has live-tweeted the entire episode with a romantic meet-cute spin and #CafeBae is the new hashtag-du-jour. The problem? Katrina craves a low-profile life, and going viral threatens the peaceful world she’s painstakingly built. Besides, #CafeBae isn’t the man she’s hungry for...
He’s got a [peach emoji] to die for.
With the internet on the hunt for the identity of #CuteCafeGirl, Jas Singh, bodyguard, friend, and possessor of the most beautiful eyebrows Katrina’s ever seen, comes to the rescue and whisks her away to his family’s home. Alone in a remote setting with the object of her affections? It’s a recipe for romance. But after a long dating dry spell, Katrina isn’t sure she can trust her instincts when it comes to love—even if Jas’ every look says he wants to be more than just her bodyguard…

Why Did I Read?
I am making it a point this year to get through allll my Netgalley backlog! I have so many friends that are fans of Alisha Rai so I chose this first!
My Thoughts:
In the age of social media where anyone can post anything and have it go viral, Girl Gone Viral takes a good hard look at the repercussions a seemingly innocent post can have.
Katrina King is a former model, now widowed (and rich), living in anonymity in order to preserve her privacy and have a handle on the anxiety attacks she is prone to have. Jas is her bodyguard. He has been through thick and thin with her the past many years. Now, is there any romance trope better than the MMC being the bodyguard that secretly pines and is in love with his charge? No. It’s one of my favorite tropes.
Anyway, on an outing to a cafe, Katrina has a completely polite, innocent encounter with a stranger that gets live tweeted online. It takes off, with the internet envisioning it as a meet cute. Katrina is horrified as she’s terrified of her identity and location being found so she runs off with Jas to his family farm.
Cue all the shenanigans that could occur when you’re living under one small-ish roof with the person you’re getting heart flutters for. These two each have a lot of past baggage and past emotional trauma but over the course of their time away their sparks fly. I really enjoyed seeing them find each other and gradually open up to the other. They are both so good together! I also loved Jas’ family and Katrina’s friends who are true support systems. Loved both Katrina’s and Jas’ growth over the course of the book.
This was my first book by Alisha Rai – but it won’t be the last!
In Short…
Read for diverse characters, relevant social media discussion, friends to lovers and lots and lots of secret pining.
I know I’m many years late — have you read this yet? Are you an Alisha Rai fan? What books of hers would you recommend next?
