“A high-octane thriller . . . Nyxia grabs you from the first line and never lets go.” —Marie Lu, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Warcross

Every life has a price in this sci-fi thriller—the first in a trilogy—that has the nonstop action of The Maze Runner and the high-stakes space setting of Illuminae What would you be willing to risk for a lifetime of fortune? Emmett Atwater isn’t just leaving Detroit; he’s leaving Earth. Why the Babel Corporation recruited him is a mystery, but the number of zeroes on their contract has him boarding their lightship and hoping to return to Earth with enough money to take care of his family. Forever. Before long, Emmett discovers that he is one of ten recruits, all of whom have troubled pasts and are a long way from home. Now each recruit must earn the right to travel down to the planet of Eden—a planet that Babel has kept hidden—where they will mine a substance called Nyxia that has quietly become the most valuable material in the universe. But Babel’s ship is full of secrets. And Emmett will face the ultimate choice: win the fortune at any cost, or find a way to fight that won’t forever compromise what it means to be human. “The 100 meets Illuminae in this high-octane sci-fi thriller.” —Bustle

AND DON'T MISS NYXIA UNLEASHED!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Why Did I Read?

I’m a big fan of sci-fi and I am loving the influx of YA sci-fi recently!

My Thoughts:

Nyxia was a fast paced, non-stop action read that I enjoyed immensely! It is set on a space ship taking a group of kids out to Eden — they are competing for a limited number of spots to go there and mine nyxia – a substance only found on this other planet. Their family gets compensated handsomely by this company in charge but Babel may not be all they appear.

Emmett is our main character but all the other supporting characters are great. I loved getting to know each of them and see them form relationships despite the situation they were in to compete against one another. The plot gave me major Red Rising feels, but in a more YA vein.

I really enjoyed the interesting tech introduced in Nyxia and the substance nyxia itself was fascinating and there’s definitely more to it than what we initially see. We are also introduced to the aliens that live on Eden and there’s definitely a lot of information that Babel is not telling these kids. What else are they planning??

My favorite part of this book was really the connections the characters forged with each other. They are thrown into a variety of difficult situations and the choices they make will affect and define them and their futures. I loved the moral questions posed and seeing what they grapple with. It was action packed and kept me riveted from beginning to end!

In Short…

For those that are fans of sci-fi, action packed adventure, and strong characters!

"File this book under A for Amazing." -Jay Kristoff, New York Times bestselling author

Discover book two in the sci-fi space trilogy that Bustle described as "The 100 meets Illuminae" and Marie Lu called, "a high-octane thriller."

Emmett Atwater thought Babel's game sounded easy. Get points. Get paid. Go home. But it didn't take long for him to learn that Babel's competition was full of broken promises, none darker or more damaging than the last one.

Now Emmett and the rest of the Genesis spaceship survivors must rally and forge their own path through a new world. Their mission from Babel is simple: extract nyxia, the most valuable material in the universe, and play nice with the indigenous Adamite population.

But Emmett and the others quickly realize they are caught between two powerful forces-Babel and the Adamites-with clashing desires. Will the Genesis team make it out alive before it's too late?

Praise for Book 1 in The Nyxia Triad:

"A high-octane thriller . . . Nyxia grabs you from the first line and never lets go." -Marie Lu,#1 New York Times bestselling author of the Young Elites series

"Brilliant concept meets stellar execution in this fast-paced deep space adventure. I was hooked from page one." -Victoria Schwab, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Why Did I Read?

I was very interested to see where this story was going to go after that ending in Nyxia!

My Thoughts:

Unfortunately, Nyxia Unleashed really felt like it had a bad case of second book syndrome. The first book left us on the cusp of a brand new adventure, a whole new world, a whole new planet to discover and explore, not to mention an entire new species! But I really felt like the plot floundered.

It wasn’t that it was slow, necessarily. Things were happening. It just felt like the plot was meandering and losing focus a bit. I also was not really a fan of the romance situation at all. I felt no romance vibes between Emmett and Morning and it seemed like they were starting to be a thing toward the end of Nyxia and all of a sudden here they’re definitely a thing and it felt forced and rushed and I just didn’t like their romance at all.

Then there’s the thing that was a pro for me in the first book but ended feeling like a con to me in this one. And that thing is the Red Rising similarities. I loved the RR vibes I got from Nyxia but with its own unique twist but in this one, the similarities made me wrinkle my nose. It may be because I had things that were bugging me in this one already so I was comparing the two more harshly but man. It started to really bug me. This won’t be an issue if you haven’t read RR though.

In Short…

This felt like second book syndrome hit it hard. Since I’ve already read two out of the three, I’ll end up finishing the trilogy and hoping the finale makes me like it more! I enjoyed the first so much so I am hopeful!
