Marlee thought she scored the man of her dreams only to be scorched by a bad breakup. But there's a new player on the horizon, and he's in a league of his own...

Marlee Harper is the perfect girlfriend. She's definitely had enough practice by dating her NFL-star boyfriend for the last ten years. But when she discovers he has been tackling other women on the sly, she vows to never date an athlete again. There's just one problem: Gavin Pope, the new hotshot quarterback and a fling from the past, has Marlee in his sights.

Gavin fights to show Marlee he's nothing like her ex. Unfortunately, not everyone is ready to let her escape her past. The team's wives, who never led the welcome wagon, are not happy with Marlee's return. They have only one thing on their minds: taking her down. But when the gossip makes Marlee public enemy number one, she worries about more than just her reputation.

Between their own fumbles and the wicked wives, it will take a Hail Mary for Marlee and Gavin's relationship to survive the season.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Why Did I Read?

As many of you may know… I am a big football fan (Go Hawks!) and I live for football season and both love and hate those heartstopping games. So I always love picking up books with a sports theme and especially love a good sporty romance especially if it’s football themed! I was really excited to buddy read this one with most of the girls in my fantasy football league (Game of Throws!). We are a group of football and book loving gals and I don’t know what I’d do without these girls in my life — not only can we trash talk each other but despite being scattered around the country we are a close knit group that love each other! <3 So of course there was no one better to read this with! They will also be sharing their thoughts today and throughout the week so be sure to check out what they thought: Andi at Andi ABC’s, Mary at Mary Had A Little Book Blog, Tonya at Vivacious Bibliophile, Lauren at Bookmarklit and Jess at Gone With the Words.

My Thoughts:

I started this opening weekend of football and there truly wasn’t a more perfect time to do so! Fall weather had settled in, football was on TV and reading a football romance was JUST the thing to round out the weekend.

If I had to pick one word to describe Intercepted it would be FUN. This one seriously is just such a fun, enjoyable read! Marlee is sassy and her inner dialogue cracked me up. The hashtags did get to feel like a bit too much by the end but they were funny to start with. Now, Marlee has sworn off football players after her break up with her long time boyfriend but Gavin is there to disrupt her plans.

Gavin is the Mustang’s latest QB and I really liked him! He was charming, thoughtful and overall a good person pretty much the exact opposite of Chris, the ex. I was obviously rooting for them from the beginning and liked seeing them fall in love. I liked seeing the games, Marlee’s passion when at games (she is totally who I aspire to be like at a game, haha) and all the football aspects. Alexa Martin is a wife of a former NFL player so I imagine a lot of the behind the scenes experiences hold a lot of truth, even the super “mean girls” atmosphere of the NFL wives.

Some fumbles, so to speak, of the book for me were that it began to feel a little too over the top, just a lot of events happening that almost seemed like too much to add onto the central romance storyline. And I struggled with the black moment – there were some actions that seemed contrary to characters’ personalities and the actions seemed very unlike what I felt like they would actually do. I’m being vague for the sake of spoilers! I know black moments are necessary (that moment in romances when things go bad before they get good) but I like them to feel right and this one didn’t feel right to me.

In Short…

I’d recommend Intercepted if you’re a football fan like me or just a fan of fun romances with a sassy lead! This is perfect to pick up during the fall football season!

I love football and fun romances so I think this book would be right up my alley. I always fall back to First & Then for my sports book fix or Scoring Wilder, such great books.

  2. I think we need to start off every football season with a football romance. #newtradition And I LOVED Marlee at the games! You bet I’d always be out in the seats if I had the chance (but I’d totally grab food from the WAGs box).

I love football as well as romances, so I don’t see why they can’t go together. Looking forward to the read.

Fun and a sassy character that makes you laugh sounds perfect for me. Great review! I’m looking forward to reading this while watching Sunday football.
