Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl!
This week we are talking about our favorite tropes! There are definitely certain tropes that reel me in if I see it mentioned in a book synopsis or book jacket! They’re like my catnip. I could read it a bunch of times and still want more stories with that trope! Here are my top five faves! (I couldn’t come up with ten…)
Friends to Lovers: I love when best friends start to figure out they are in love with one another. There is just something about knowing so much about the other or having gone through a lot together that makes the transition from friendship to romance something special and always makes me happy!
Brother’s best friend: When I was younger, I really wanted a brother so that I could fall in love with his attractive best friend. My love of this trope started a long time ago, haha! I don’t know exactly what it is about this trope but it never gets old!
Hate to love: I think it’s the banter that I end up loving the most! The bickering and arguing and back and forth can be adorable. And it makes that “omg, I think I’m in love with this person that I thought I hated” moment so great.
Personal Guard that’s in love with the MC: the illicit can’t-have-this-relationship-because-I’m-sworn-to-protect-you feels. Possibly my fave ever in fantasies especially! (I’m not kidding, Hector is quite possibly my #1 fave)
Training Montage: Is this a trope? I just love this in books whether it be in contemporaries or fantasies. There’s just something about the character pushing themselves to their limits toward a goal. And my mind is currently blank on books with good training montages so enjoy this Mulan gif.
Yeah, I think training montages are tropes. They’re really interesting to read about, too.

Ugghh yes the princess and the bodyguard is one of my favourite romantic tropes EVER. Great list!

My TTT post
I’ve never read a brother’s best friend book but I really need to soon. My brother’s 7 years older than I am so there were varied crushes over the years. LOL!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Yes to all of these! I feel like I never read any in the brother’s best friend category. Not because I don’t want to (I do) but because I think that was probably the ultimate favourite of mine back in fanfiction days and I wore myself out with that. BUT, I’m going to have to look into your recommendations on that one and get back into it because at the end of the day I’m still 100% trash for that trope. SIGN ME THE HECK UP.
I love enemies to lovers and friends to lovers too. It’s funny that you were all for the brother’s best friend trope even when you were a kid! Chances are, if you did have a brother, his best friend would have been all geeky and ugly though.
