Posted May 23, 2017 by Wendy in Top Ten Tuesday / 9 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!

This week is all about those summer-y reads! Which is perfect timing because here in the Pacific NW we’ve been having the LONGEST winter ever. I’m not even exaggerating, we recently had our FIRST day this year where the temperature reached 70 and we are now experiencing the FIRST NICE DAYS EVER THIS YEAR. I can’t even describe how happy it makes me. I’m normally fine with the rain and gray weather but this year it was way too much. Bring on spring/summer!

I’m going to be talking about the top ten books I’m putting in MY beach bag this summer! When I want to lie out in the sun and read, I always find myself gravitating toward lighter contemporaries. I’m going to talk about five that are new releases or are coming out soon and five that are summer-y, beachy reads I’ve been meaning to get to for awhile and intend to make it happen this year!

Five New/Upcoming Releases Going Into My Beach Bag:

Summer Unscripted by Jen Klein: This one just says SUMMER and I don’t just mean because it’s in the title 😉 It sounds like so much fun and perfect for reading out in the sun!

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon: I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this one from my friends! I’m definitely taking this one to the beach!

I Believe In A Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo: The main character just sounds like someone I could totally relate with haha plus K-drama fun! I’m just excited for this one!

Geekerella by Ashley Poston: YES, give me the geeky goodness and all the fandom stuff! Combined with a Cinderella twist? Please tell me why I haven’t read it yet.

The Unlikelies by Carrie Firestone: The Breakfast Club vibes really sell me! It sounds like a perfect summer read!

Five Books That I’ve Totally Tossed In My Beach Bag In Previous Summers — This Will Be The Summer I Get To Them!

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson: I had it preordered last year and got to meet Morgan last year (she’s wonderful!) and yet I apparently forgot to take it out of my beach bag last year! Dogs and summer and a Morgan contemporary – what’s there not to like??

The Secret of A Heart Note by Stacey Lee: I have really enjoyed her historical fiction books and this one sounds so unique and cute! An aroma expert! I’m really looking forward to it!

The Distance Between Us by Kasie West: Can you believe I’ve never read a Kasie West contemp? I LOVED Pivot Point by her and have been meaning to read her contemporaries for years! I feel like this one has taken permanent residence in my beach bag, haha! This will be the summer! 🙂

Breathe, Annie, Breathe by Miranda Kenneally: I really enjoy Miranda’s Hundred Oaks series! This is the next one up for me in her series and I’m really looking forward to it! Especially because I’m currently training for my half marathon (coming up in 6 weeks!) so I feel like it’ll be perfect!

Bonus Beach Bag Reads I’ve Already Read & You Should Too!

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett: Cute, fun and a swoooony boy – all ingredients for a great beach read!

Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han: This series is just so good! This was the perfect series ender and I’m going to miss Lara Jean so much. Highly recommend this series!

Tell me what books are in YOUR beach bag this summer! I can always use more recs! Let me know what you plan to read this summer!

  1. Aw, so many cute reads (cover wise!) on this list. I’ve heard amazing things about ‘Dimple’ (and am SO curious!); ‘Think Called Love’ looks adorable; “Alex Approximately” is one I bought because I like the idea of a YA “You’ve Got Mail”; ‘Geek’ sounds like my cup of tea; and Jenny Han’s and Morgan Matson’s books have been on my TBR for YEARS!

“The Distance Between Us” is 100% adorable! Hope you enjoy, Wendy.

  2. I have Breathe, Annie, Breathe and need to read it– but I would never be reading it in advance of training for a marathon. LOL. Running is so painful– I try to only do it when I’m being chased…. or like there’s a really important book at BEA (j/k).

  3. You’ve reminded me I really, really want to read Secret of a Heart Note!! And The Unexpected Everything is a great summer read – it was one of my favourites last year!

  4. I live in Central New York, and our spring has been weird too! We had a couple days that were so hot it was like summer (highs in the 80s) and then so many cold and rainy days. On the plus side, all the grass is super green.

Anyway, I love The Distance Between Us!

  5. I love your summer reads list! There are so many here that I want to read and haven’t had the chance to, YET! I’ll have to come back when I’m at a loss for what to read this summer so I can steal some of these ideas.

  6. I would love my city to reach 70 … it’s still 50-55 here 🙁

Alex, Approximately is on my list for the summer, I’ve been hearing only good things about it! I like the idea of exchanging emails, even though it’s a little creepy if it happened in real life haha. You need to read Geekerella!!!
