Monthly Recap: September 2020 // Changing Seasons

Posted October 6, 2020 by Wendy in Personal, recap / 0 Comments

Happy Fall! While I’m sad to say goodbye to summer, I do love fall so I’m embracing all the cozy fall things that make me happy because in this day and age, we need all the positive things we can get! So while I am already missing the long daylight hours and summer fruits (so sad to say goodbye to my weekly fresh farmer market produce & goodies), I am excited for cozy blankets, crunchy leaves, hot drinks, fall candles and all things pumpkin.

Pumpkin turkey chili!

I live for the seasonal drops at Trader Joe’s and have already gone all out on all the pumpkin things there – favorite stand bys: the pumpkin cream cheese with pumpkin bagels, autumnal pasta sauce, pumpkin waffle mix and pumpkin rooibos tea. New faves: apple cider cookies, pumpkin butter, pumpkin brioche bread (I made french toast with this!) and pumpkin spicy curry simmer sauce (I used this with beef and zucchini!) In short, if you haven’t already, definitely go get yourself some fall goodies at TJ’s!

The absolute best thing to happen in September was that I got to see my best friend, Becca, before she moved out of state. Given 2020 and the pandemic, I haven’t seen anyone and have been very strict on social contact (obviously) so my immediate bubble has been small. I have been unmasked indoors with a total of three people (including my husband) since I am a responsible human being and doing what’s necessary when a pandemic is running rampant through our country. So we planned it out and she self quarantined for 14 days and got a covid test before she came to see me for a weekend. I was so, so happy to see her and hug her and we had a great time getting food for pick up, digging up my old Rock Band set and playing and just being together. Friendships and close contact is something so vital and it has been so hard to lose that this year so I’m very grateful this happened before her move. We were so busy having fun we never even took any photos! Fail.

None this month fell into any of the prompts.

I’m still on a women’s fic space! Agh! I haven’t read any yet.

Fitness Front:

Well I’m currently trying to get my running fitness back on track! I missed a lot of running time when I sprained my ankle and then it took a backseat to hiking. THEN I was out of it for the weeks we had smoke. All that to say, the last few weeks have felt a bit rough as I ramp up to my “normal” long run mileage. Today felt better and it’ll just be a matter of time before I get back into the swing of things.

We did get a last backpacking trip in BEFORE the smoke rolled in (literally the day or so before) so that was nice! Gorgeous views, alpine lakes, early morning peak summits – nothing better. 🙂
