February 2020 Reading Recap + March Life Update

Posted March 21, 2020 by Wendy in Personal, recap / 0 Comments

Well HI everyone! I know it’s been a HOT MINUTE since I posted here on the blog. Yes, I realize that right now the world is sort of on fire and turned upside down. I’m combining a quick recap of Feb book-wise and a general life update because I’m SO late to the Feb recap posting and honestly, it would just be real weird to not touch on or talk about any of the events affecting ALL of us right now — so that’s why I’m adding on the quick life update too. 🙂

I hope everyone is doing okay – I know general anxiety and stress may be paramount as lives and routines are upended by COVID. I’m in the same boat! I read the news so I’m up to date and then draw a line at one point during the day/evening where I put my phone away and have to just not look at anything for the sake of my mental health and anxiety.

Some background on what I’ve been doing with my time in Feb… my reading and blogging time took a hit in February because I was elbows deep in planning a trip. My close friends will tell you that I am an avid type-A planner – I have docs and spreadsheets, I do research on everythinggg involved in a trip. So I fell down a trip research black hole in February and all my time was consumed with getting things together for a trip to Europe: Paris for a few days and then hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc (a multi-day hut to hut hiking trip that spans three countries around Mont Blanc and covers over 10K ft elevation and ~110 miles). They have these great refuges and some hotels in towns that you pass through that you can stay at but it’s such a popular hike that people book things starting in January. So I got real on top of it, did a TON of research and booked most everything once I got details locked down. I’ve been wanting to take a trip with my husband for ages. I finally convinced him to go. It’s been a few years since our last vacation together. I needed this to look forward to and now? I actually took my countdown widget off my phone because I have no idea what things will be like in mid-July. I don’t know where things will be at with this pandemic running rampant. I can’t even work for the next two months (only on call for emergencies since PPE is so scarce anything non-emergency is mandated to be postponed). Anyway – THAT is why I was absent in Feb because that’s where all my time went.

But I am trying to damnedest to be positive – finding refuge in Netflix and books and running 🙂 Practicing social distancing and staying at home for all non-essential things because that is key for us to flatten the curve of COVID — which really, is something us bookworms can excel at, right? Let’s look at some of the books I read in Feb and other more lighthearted happenings from the previous month!

Popsugar 2020 reading challenge banner

A book with a bird on the cover √ – The Raven Boys

A book with at least a four-star rating on Goodreads: √ – The Book of Life – too bad I wasn’t a huge fan of it myself 🙁

A book with more than 20 letters in its title: The Tattooist of Auschwitz

Fitness Front:

As with everything being cancelled right now… all races in March and into April are cancelled. It really sucks both on the athlete end and also from the race director’s end — a lot of planning and a lot of money went into it. However, this is necessary and for the good of everyone involved so I’ve been doing a lot of home work outs and still running on my own! We all love races but this is a good reminder at least for me, of why I run – it’s not just for the number on my watch but because it’s something I truly enjoy and love. It’s my stress reliever (which is needed now more than ever!) and my time where I get to just let everything roll off my shoulders, just for a bit. Let’s not lose sight of that!

What books are you stocking up on at home while you practice social distancing? Drop them below!
