Monthly Recap: August 2020 + Mid-Sept Check In / Getting Outdoors

Posted September 15, 2020 by Wendy in Personal, recap / 0 Comments

Can we just decide that it’s my brand to always be perpetually, awfully late on monthly recaps? Life, I swear. I will never be caught up. So I decided to combine this into a mid September life check in as well so it’s a little more current 😉

August was a fun month of a lot of outdoor activities: backpacking, hiking, trail running and drive in movies! Considering that the beginning of September, especially this last week here in the Pacific NW has been just a blanket of thick wildfire smoke, I’m even more thankful that I was able to enjoy so many outdoor things. I mean, there’s not much you can do safely due to the pandemic and to have even the outdoors taken away – it’s hard. So, so sad the devastation and loss the fires have wreaked on the west coast. Thinking of and hoping everyone affected are staying safe! <3

My husband and I did some trail running, backpacking overnight trips and then through hiked the Enchantments: a ~20ish mile long route through beautiful alpine wilderness including ascending Aasgard Pass, an intense 2000ish ft gain in about a mile. We did it last year and loved it and had a great time doing it again this year!

It was also my birthday at the end of August! I got myself a cake and it was delicious. 🙂 I also went to my local indie and bought a bunch of books with a gift card I had! It was the first time I’ve gotten to browse a bookstore since March and it was really calming to browse the empty aisles full of books. They had great covid measures in place (mask, 30 min long visits, only certain number of people, etc) and I was excited to pick up some birthday goodies for myself!

A book from a series with more than 20 books: A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole – soo technically the series doesn’t have 20 books YET but I’m counting it because there will be more than 20! Do you know how hard it is to find a series with more than 20 books??

None this month? I think I’m on a space that’s women’s fiction so while I have been reading lots of romance, none that fell into that particular category! I am thinking as it gets toward the end of the year, I’m going to just mark off corresponding squares if I read the category instead of going on only what I’ve landed on. So I can at least try and complete the board!

Fitness Front:

Running always seems to take a slight backseat for me in the summer, ceding to hiking and backpacking. I’ve also been biking a bit more this summer since I got a new (to me – it was used) road bike and I’m trying to put more cycling miles in as cross training!

Are you eager for fall? Tell me what you’re looking forward to reading this month or recent favorites!
