Best of 2018: In Books & Life

Posted January 2, 2019 by Wendy in recap / 6 Comments

You know what’s interesting? Is that I see all these best of 2018 lists throughout December and they make me super antsy because 2018 isn’t actually over yet so what if, on the very last day of December I read THE BEST BOOK of the year? I don’t publish best of lists until the new year and by then everyone seems to have moved on to 2019 lists. Oh well! I will just be over here doing me! πŸ™‚

2018 wasn’t the BEST reading year ever for me as far as ratings go so here’s to hoping 2019 will bring more five star reads! Without further ado, here are my best of 2018 lists: in books, reading, life and everything else in between.

Best 2018 Releases:

Dear Mrs. Bird by A.J. Pearce
Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills
Check, Please! by Ngozi Ukazu
Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor
Obsidio by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett
G’morning and G’night: Little Pep Talks From Me & You by Lin Manuel Miranda

Best Backlist Books Read in 2018

Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas
The Remedy by Suzanne Young
Lady of the Eternal City by Kate Quinn

Best Audiobooks Listened in 2018

The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee (reread)
Dear Mrs. Bird by A.J. Pearce
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater (reread)
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor (reread)
Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman (reread)
Morning Star by Pierce Brown (reread)

Best Running Moments of 2018

  • Ran the Seattle Rock n Roll Marathon!
  • PRed my half marathon time at the Snohomish Women’s Half
  • Completed two Ragnar races: Northwest Passage and Rainier Trail

Best Standout Moments of 2018

  • I got to go Australia and New Zealand, the latter of which I’ve wanted to go to since I was a kid! Hiked in the beautiful NZ countryside, saw the Shire and walked along all the hobbit paths in Hobbiton.
  • I got to go to ALA in New Orleans with some best bookish friends and had the most amazing time talking books and eating good food
  • Disney and California Adventure for my birthday with my whole family <3

And 2018 is a wrap! Here’s to more good books, good audios, more races, PRs, travel, fun adventures and friends!

What books are you looking forward to in 2019? What’s on your list to get to this year, both backlist and new releases? Tell me so I can get those on my radar too!

  1. You had the BEST year! I also agree I think best of lists need to happen at the beginning of the next year. It’s just not fair to everything that happens in December! Here’s to hoping for an even more spectacular 2019!

  2. Marrying Winterborne — YES!! I love this series on audio!

So sad I wasn’t able to make it to NOLA, OR Seattle this year. πŸ™

So proud of you for running the marathon!
